Overwatch 2 Making Huge Improvement for Console Players in Season 20

By newsgame

Overwatch 2 is making some massive improvements to its controller Aim Assist features, including additional sliders for fine-tuning and a blanket strength increase of about 6–8%. Once Season 20 arrives on December 9, Overwatch 2 fans on console or who use controllers should have a much better time lining up the perfect shots, regardless of their role or hero.

Aim assist is a feature found in most shooters that helps players using controllers compensate for the difference in precision when compared to mouse and keyboard inputs. Overwatch 2‘s Aim Assist feature manifests by each hero having an “aim assist bubble” that helps nudge their cursor to line up shots more efficiently than they otherwise might. Right now, the game has a robust aim assist that can be further customized for each individual hero.

Marvel Rivals and Overwatch 2 will officially tie each other in terms of character account this December, and that’s bad news for the former.

Aim Assist Improvements Coming in Overwatch 2 Season 20

However, this feature is getting several key improvements in Overwatch 2‘s Season 20 that should help controller users even more. For starters, the base aim assist has been increased by between 6% and 8% based on the target’s distance, and the default settings for this feature have been fine-tuned to give casual fans a stronger and more intentional base to work with. For those looking to fine-tune the aim assist feature further, several new settings have been introduced, including separate Aim Assist Ease sliders for Projectile, Hitscan, and Melee heroes, an Aim Assist Health Threshold feature for supports, and four extra sensitivity sliders to fine-tune turning speed.

  • 6-8% base aim assist
  • Separate settings for Aim Assist Ease In for Projectile, Hitscan, and Melee heroes
  • Aim Assist Health Threshold feature for healers
  • Four extra sensitivity sliders for turning speed
  • New defaults that should feel more intentional for casual players

These changes mean aim assist will be tighter, cleaner, and more customizable for all types of heroes, regardless of role or weapon type. The Aim Assist Health Threshold in particular will also allow support heroes in Overwatch 2 who automatically target allies, like Mercy or Lifeweaver, to more easily target low-health heroes behind full-health allies to make sure their cooldowns aren’t wasted.

The engineers responsible for these improvements made them because they had found that Overwatch 2’s aim assist was actually weaker than most other console FPS games. Overwatch 2 is also more fast-paced and frenetic than its predecessor, predicating the need for these improvements.

Other Overwatch 2 Season 20 Features

Season 20 of Overwatch 2 is getting plenty of other stuff beyond these Aim Assist tweaks, too. Vendetta, the first melee damage hero in Overwatch 2, is the star of the show, bringing an aggressive playstyle to the game that will greatly benefit from these Aim Assist improvements for controller users. Additionally, the new Challenger Tier for Competitive Play should also make climbing the ranks even easier.

Stadium is receiving a bunch of new content as well. Doomfist and Wuyang make their debut, alongside a rework of Cassidy’s Powers and Items. The brand-new Wuxing University Control map joins Overwatch 2 Stadium as a potential battlefield, and in the midseason update, anti-spawn camp turrets will be implemented to help the underdogs get back to the objective without being steamrolled at their base as easily.

Tons of new skins arrive in the Battle Pass and store in Overwatch 2 Season 20, including the Mythic Divine Desperado Cassidy, Capsule Cannon Orisa weapon skin, and Magma Titan Doomfist during the midseason patch. Winter Wonderland also returns to Overwatch 2 from December 9 through January 7, featuring familiar game modes alongside a holiday-themed Mischief & Magic. The first two weeks of this event will feature the typical prop hunt minigame, but the last two will introduce a twist in the form of special abilities unique to each disguise that will let Kiriko fight back against Genji. There haven’t been any clues pointing towards a new collaboration event yet, but the Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover will return from December 16–29, ostensibly giving fans the chance to buy any skins they missed or earn Katara Mei through in-game challenges.
