Hilarious Helldivers 2 Clip Shows Why You Should Be Careful With Capes
A Helldivers 2 has learned the hard way why Edna Mode from The Incredibles was so anti-cape. The past year has been full of ups and downs for Arrowhead Studios’ live-service shooter, swinging wildly between surges in popularity and moments of widespread frustration from fans. Things are still a little shaky for Helldivers 2, but players have still found a lot to enjoy in the game, even if some of that enjoyment comes from moments the devs may not have expected.
Despite getting off to a strong start after its 2024 release, the game hasn’t had the easiest time keeping its fanbase happy as the months go by. In September 2025, Helldivers 2 Steam reviews fell to “Mixed” as PC players cited persistent bugs and optimization issues. Since then, devs have released multiple patches, and while some complaints remain, it seems the game has made significant strides in getting to a place where fans want it to be. As people continue to dive into the game amid these fixes, some have run into unexpected in-game situations of a different kind.

Helldivers 2 gets an encouraging update on the developer’s future schedule for game patches, which aim to massively fix key problems.
Helldivers 2 Player Dies When Their Cape Gets Stuck
A Redditor by the name of Intelligent_Roll_894 shared a clip of their Helldivers 2 character dying when their cape got caught in an SOS beacon. While the beacon itself didn’t finish them off, it rendered them unable to move or fight back, essentially becoming a rotisserie chicken for the swarm of Terminids. It didn’t take long for other users to start referencing Edna Mode’s warnings about the dangers of capes getting caught in all manner of hazards in The Incredibles. It also adds another layer to Helldivers 2 players’ requests for cape customization changes, as the ability to equip a shorter cape or wear it closer to the neck could prevent the same kind of unfortunate but hilarious end Intelligent_Roll_894 met.
As silly as the death was, some users pointed out how it was actually fitting for a Helldiver in the context of the game’s lore, as the Super Earth Federation treats them as expendable. The absurdity also suits the game’s satirical tone, so it wouldn’t be entirely surprising if devs had this kind of situation in mind when they programmed the physics. It doesn’t seem that Incredibles-style cape-related deaths were intentional, though, considering how many players mentioned they had never seen anything like this in the game. Considering how Helldivers 2‘s commemorative capes have quickly gained popularity, it is a little unusual that this hasn’t happened much before, but it does seem like a perfect storm of events.
Oddly enough, this is not the first cape-related gaming news of the year. In June, Superman’s cape caused a stir among Fortnite fans, though that was an issue with how the game distributed cosmetics, not an instance of capes causing in-game problems. Cape drama aside, there is a lot to look forward to for Helldivers 2 fans, with the game finally addressing its PC file size issues and new content coming down the pipeline.
