Hidden Mechanics in Fortnite (Chapter 7 Season 1)

By newsgame

With every Season of Fortnite, Epic Games attempts to innovate to bring something new to the table. However, when an entirely new Chapter is on the horizon, the team goes all out in bringing forth an abundance of new mechanics that will be unfamiliar to new players and catch them off guard as they attempt to win yet another match of their favorite Battle Royale. Below, we’ve outlined the key mechanics in Chapter 7 Season 1 that Fortnite doesn’t tell you about, so you can stay ahead of the competition that hasn’t figured them out yet!

Here’s a look at every item you can get in the full Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 Battle Pass, along with the levels you will need for each tier!

Ride the Wave When Surfing For More Height

Surf on the Tsunami With Skill to Reach Far Away POIs

The Battle Bus has been destroyed, and while you can still pay your respects to the Bus Driver, it’s going to be a few more days until the Battle Bus is fully repaired and players can drop from the sky to their favorite locations. For now, though, it’s time to surf onto the island. Surfing is a new mechanic, and the first time in 7 years that there’s a different method of transportation to the island.

This mechanic does feel a tad strange at first, especially when you can only reach random POIs on the edges of the map instead of going more inland. However, you can make sure your jump height is extended by riding the wave and then jumping as the timer reaches 0, as this will boost your initial jump and allow you to travel further than other players.

Become the Boss Fight

Beat the Boss to Become the Boss for More Health and Special Abilities

Another interesting mechanic comes in the changes associated with boss fights. Bosses have long since roamed the map in Chapter 6, and they continue to do so in Chapter 7. However, bosses now have random spawns and will be placed at a unique landmark or POI for you to try and find. Not only does eliminating them grant a Mythic weapon, but it also grants the ability to become them.

After defeating a boss, you can pick up their Medallion to become the boss. You will spawn as a larger character model, with 125 Health and 125 Shield. You can play as normal and use the Medallion to summon henchmen, along with a unique effect depending on the boss. However, your position on the map is permanently exposed, and the only way to stop being the boss is to be eliminated.

Throw Downed Teammates Into Vehicles to Escape Elimination

Downed Teammates Can Now Enter Vehicles Instead of Being Left Behind

In duos, trios, or squads, there’s nothing more terrifying than seeing a teammate get downed, leaving you outgunned and vulnerable that you might be heading to the lobby. You’re always faced with two choices: stay and fight to see if you can beat against the odds, or run away, leaving your teammate behind to live to fight another day. Luckily, Chapter 7 Season 1 means that the latter doesn’t result in death.

When a teammate has been downed, you can pick them up and throw them towards a vehicle, and it will see them enter inside. Allowing a teammate to hide in a vehicle and stay seated while you get to the driver’s side and drive away is a great tactic for teams who know they can’t survive the fight. Drive off, revive, and live to see another day.

More Movement Options When Down, But Not Out

Roll Around, Crawl Faster, and Ragdoll to Avoid Gunfire

Getting downed always seems to ensure a death sentence, especially when other players are so eager to confirm their elimination. However, you might just have a fighting chance in Chapter 7 Season 1. Not only can you now crawl faster and use some stamina as you would during a sprint, but you can press Space/X/A to roll.

Rolling will essentially allow you to evade gunfire, and you can spam it to stay on the move. If you’re near a hill, you can even roll down it and ragdoll, which will make you a hard target to hit, and hopefully give you enough time for a teammate to come to your aid and revive you.

Everything New in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1

Everything New in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 brings a whole host of new changes that switch up the gameplay a lot. Here is a rundown of everything new.

Minigames in Wonkeeland Provide Unique Loot

Shoot Targets to Get Legendary Loot

Heading to one of the most glorious POIs this season, you’ll find yourself in Wonkeeland, a theme park filled with all sorts of rides to enjoy. Wonkeeland isn’t just eye candy, as it’s also got a few secret mechanics worth looking into. Some of the rides provide Shield and Health when you’re in trouble, and grind rails make for quick escapes to navigate the park. However, the best part is the minigames.

In the center of Wonkeeland, you’ll find a shooting minigame, where you can press a button and shoot the yeti targets. The more yetis you shoot, the more score you build, and anything above a 20 score grants you some great loot when the timer runs out. You can easily get Chug Jugs, Legendary weapons, and more just from this minigame, which is a fun mechanic that rewards players for their skills.

Fall With Style Thanks to the Gliding Wingsuit

Glide Across the Map to Avoid Fights or Fly Towards Them

The Wingsuit is a new item in Chapter 7 Season 1, and it joins the mainly different mobility items in ensuring you can travel the island faster and safer, or escape a fight to live to see another day. The Wingsuit has 10 charges, and will see your character shoot upwards with a jetpack, before descending down with a gliding Wingsuit.

You can cross pretty vast distances at a fast speed in the Wingsuit, making you a hard target to hit as you fall through the air with style. This fun mechanic can be just as useful as Shockwave Grenades to navigate the map, avoid gunfights, or get directly involved in them, thanks to the fast speeds and aerial high ground that allows you to watch the battlefield below like a hawk.

Self-Revive Kits to Stay in the Fight Even in Solo Games

Revive Yourself in Solo Games, or When Allies Are Busy

A defining item to change the mechanics is the Self-Revive Kit, which will allow you to revive yourself and return to the fight. This kit can only be obtained from Rare Chests and from Vending Machines for 2,500 Gold, but it’s more than worth its weight, and then some! The Self-Revive Kit works not just in team-based modes, but also in solos, ensuring that you can attempt to bring yourself back from the brink without an ally. That is, unless an enemy finishes you off first.

It takes 10 seconds to revive yourself, but these items are worth using, especially since they do not use an inventory slot. Having one will see you get downed, and then you can initiate a revive instantly from the moment you hit the floor. It’s great for players who have a team that’s currently busy fighting, or if you’ve been caught by a far-away sniper shot or even a fall.

Driveable Reboot Vans to Revive-on-the-Go

Reboot Your Friends or Yourself While On Wheels

Vehicles have been a mainstay on the map for years, and whether it’s a 2-seater or a 4-seater, you can rest assured knowing your new favorite vehicle has arrived. While it can’t be customized, it’s definitely got the most useful feature that’s new to Chapter 7: the ability to revive and reboot on the go.

Across the map, you’ll see Reboot Vans that do not have impounded wheels, and these can be driven around to support your team. If an ally has been downed, you can throw them in the back to revive them while staying on the move, and you can also have someone on the roof who’s rebooting a teammate while you keep your eyes on the road.
