Pokemon Fan Uses 3,500 Bricks to Build an Incredible LEGO Ho-Oh Sculpture
A very talented Pokemon fan has recently shared their own custom Ho-Oh sculpture made from over 3,000 LEGO bricks. While official Pokemon LEGO sets are on their way soon, fan creations like these continue to show the deep passion fans already have for these beloved brands.
A Fire/Flying-Type Legendary Pokemon, Ho-Oh was the very first Generation 2 monster to ever be revealed. All the way back in August 1996, Japanese magazine CoroCoro gave fans their very first look at Ho-Oh, though Ho-Oh wouldn’t be introduced to the masses until Pokemon Gold‘s release in 1999, where the legendary bird graced the Game Boy Color title’s front cover.
Pokemon Fan Builds Amazing LEGO Ho-Oh Model Ahead of Official Pokemon LEGO Set Reveals
On November 25, Reddit user TheOfficialGarf posted a set of images on the r/pokemon subreddit showing off an incredibly detailed sculpture of Ho-Oh made from around 3,500 LEGO bricks, which, according to TheOfficialGarf’s comments on the post, cost around $500 CAD. In the Reddit post, TheOfficialGarf included an image of the sprite (which closely resembles the Gen 3 version) they used for inspiration, giving context to just how well they’ve managed to capture the legendary Pokemon’s likeness.
To bring the virtual creature to life, TheOfficialGarf first created the model in BrickLink Studio, and downloaded the part list directly from the app. The talented fan then transferred that part list to LEGO’s ‘Pick a Brick’ site, where each individual piece needed was added to the cart. According to TheOfficialGarf’s replies on the post, the process of designing this model from scratch, purchasing the pieces, and building the model with no official instructions took around four months in total.
While Ho-Oh may not be the most iconic Legendary Pokemon, especially for newer fans who may not have played Pokemon Gold or its Nintendo DS remake, its importance in Pokemon history shouldn’t be easily overlooked or forgotten. Ho-Oh has appeared in every Pokemon generation since its Gen 2 debut, albeit occasionally only being obtainable via special events or trading. Ho-Oh’s last appearance was in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s DLC, where players could use a Ho-Oh Treat from Snacksworth to encounter the creature. Though it could come to the game via post-launch updates and events, Ho-Oh is not currently obtainable in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
The LEGO community has spent decades creating masterful Pokemon-themed MOCs, with that being the only way they could merge their love for the two franchises. But in just a few months, that’s all going to change. Back in March of this year, LEGO announced it was entering a partnership with The Pokemon Company to produce official sets based on the almost 30-year-old franchise. Despite that announcement coming eight months ago, and the initial wave set to land sometime in 2026, neither LEGO nor Pokemon has revealed any upcoming sets.
That said, there have been a few leaks that might shed some light on what fans can expect from the upcoming LEGO x Pokemon collaboration. According to SKU leaks, there could be a total of 23 Pokemon LEGO sets releasing in 2026, with five reportedly set to drop between February and March 2026. Of these five rumored LEGO Pokemon sets, four have been given an 18+ rating, which is usually reserved for LEGO sets targeted towards an adult demographic, often featuring more complex build techniques.
According to leaks, one of these 18+ sets could be a brick-built Pikachu and Pokeball that contains just over 2,000 pieces and retails for $200. The largest set rumored to appear in LEGO and Pokemon‘s first wave, and the most recently leaked, is a gigantic 6,838-piece set allegedly featuring Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur, which could cost $649.99.
