Death Stranding 2 Surprise Platform Launch Accidentally Leaked Early

By newsgame

According to a new listing from the ESRB, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach could be heading to PC in the near future. Though Death Stranding 2: On The Beach only launched back in June, it heading to PC in the coming months would fall in line with Sony’s usual PC strategy.

The first project to come from Hideo Kojima following his split with Konami back in 2015, Death Stranding was met with a very positive reception upon its release in November 2019 from both critics and fans alike. After an unofficial tease from star Norman Reedus earlier that year, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach was officially announced at the 2022 Game Awards, and eventually launched in June of this year, where it was met with even more acclaim than its predecessor.

ESRB Leak Teases a Death Stranding 2: On The Beach PC Release

On November 26, a new listing for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach appeared on the ESRB’s official website. This listing, first spotted by Wario64 and shared on X, stands separate from Death Stranding 2‘s PS5 rating and lists the platform as PC, suggesting that a PC port of Death Stranding 2 could be announced soon.

Though it isn’t an official confirmation from Sony or Kojima Productions, the ESRB has become a common source of early leaks in recent years, especially when it comes to ports of already-released games. Just two weeks ago, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X ports of Red Dead Redemption were leaked by an ESRB listing hours before they were officially announced by Rockstar. Just a week prior to that, the ESRB listed an Xbox Series X/S version of Silent Hill 2 Remake about two weeks before it was shadow-dropped on the new platforms. On occasion, eager fans have even been able to dive into the code of an ESRB listing to discover that a page has recently been updated, thus suggesting that an announcement is imminent. Such was the case with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered earlier this year when fans spotted an update to its ESRB listing a day prior to its official reveal and shadow drop.

When Will Death Stranding 2 Release on PC?

The new Death Stranding 2: On The Beach ESRB listing doesn’t give the potential port a release date, and listings can often go up months before a game comes out. But if past Sony ports are any indication, its announcement and release could be sooner than some fans might expect. The first Death Stranding came to PC eight months after its original PS4 launch. That said, some first-party PlayStation exclusives have taken a little longer to come to PC, such as God of War Ragnarok, which took 22 months to come to PC, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which took 15 months.

If its release date lands sometime next year, it’s very likely that Death Stranding 2‘s PC port will be officially announced at the 2025 Game Awards, with host Geoff Keighley and Hideo Kojima sharing a close relationship that’s often resulted in Kojima’s games appearing at the Game Awards in some capacity. Even if a PC port of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach isn’t announced at the Game Awards, it’s already set to have a major presence at the event, with it being nominated for an impressive total of seven awards, including Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Action/Adventure, and the coveted Game of the Year award. It would make a lot of sense for Sony to want to capitalize on this continued critical acclaim by introducing Death Stranding 2 to a new market.
