All Rare Candy Locations in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen

By newsgame

In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, there are a total of 14 Rare Candies spread out across Kanto and the Sevii Islands. Seven Rare Candies are hidden items that can only be picked up if you know the exact spot where they’re located or if you use the Itemfinder near them to pinpoint their location. The remaining are found in Poke Balls.

Other than the fixed locations where you are guaranteed to find a Rare Candy, there are certain farming methods that allow trainers to farm Rare Candies using certain exploits and workarounds. Here are the details.

There are only three ways to get additional Rare Candies in FRLG.

  1. Mail Duplication Glitch
  2. Meowth’s Pickup Ability
  3. Selphy in Resort Gorgeous

Mail Duplication Glitch

The Mail duplication glitch is an exploit that allows players to duplicate items by using a combination of a Farfetch’d that knows Knock Off, a Mr. Mime that knows Recycle, and Retro Mail bought from the Celadon Department Store. Details regarding how to perform the Mail duplication glitch can be found here.

Meowth’s Pickup Ability

In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, every Meowth has the ability Pickup, which gives it a 10% chance of “finding” a Held Item for itself. One of the possible Held Items Meowth can obtain using Pickup is Rare Candy (5% chance). Meowth does not need to participate in battle to trigger Pickup; keeping it in the party is enough. This means defeating Pokemon with a party full of six Meowth is the fastest way to farm Rare Candies using this method. Just remember to take away Meowth’s acquired Held Items after battles, as the ability only triggers when the Held Item slot is empty.

Selphy in Resort Gorgeous

After you save Selphy from the Lost Cave in Five Island (Sevii Islands), she will relocate to Resort Gorgeous. If you talk to her here, she will ask you to bring her a Pokemon in exchange for random rewards. One of these rewards is a Rare Candy (5% chance).

Selphy can request any Pokemon that is registered in your Pokedex, but she will lose interest if you take more than 250 steps to bring it to her. This quest is repeatable, though the Pokemon she requests are random.
