MH Stories 3 Feral Nerscylla Boss Guide
The Feral Nerscyllya in Monster Hunter Stories 3 is a tough monster to beat due to its ability to wipe the entire party with one attack. Using a defensive strategy that focuses on debuffing the monster while depleting its Wyvernsoul Gauge is almost mandatory if players want to win. Still, this is easier said than done, and if you’re having trouble with this boss in MH Stories 3, we’ve got you covered.
How to Get Sucklebugs, Witherweed, & Molted Gumshell for Eleanor Side Story 1 in Monster Hunter Stories 3
In Eleanor’s Chapter 1 Side Story in MH Stories 3, you’ll need to find three different materials.
Monster Hunter Stories 3 Feral Nerscylla Boss Guide
- Weaknesses: Water
- Resistances: Physical, Fire, All Ailments except Darkness and Blastblight
- Attack Preferences: Technical (Normal); Speed (Enraged)
Unlike its normal counterpart, the Feral Nerscylla is resistant to Fire, but weak to Water. It also has special Fire attacks and an AoE Sleep Gas move that can hit the entire party. We need to account for both of these, as the Feral Nerscylla can easily wipe the entire team.
Recommended Gear
Hammers with high Wyvernfell damage are great against tough bosses like this one. These will let you deplete your target’s Wyvernsoul Gauge faster, causing them to stumble and stagger, preventing them from taking any action in the process. The Chata Clobberer is particularly good early on because of its high Wyvernfell stat.
As for armor, any set will do, though the Edel Armor (which you can get by helping the Dressmaker find a Regalfin) stands out for its high base armor. You can also try using the Namielle set, but this involves repeatedly losing to the Namielle that spawns in Mirror Lake until you get enough materials to craft the armor (unless you can beat it completely).
Also, consider crafting a Magia Charm Hunting Horn simply for the Defensive Ditty skill, which gives the entire party a Dodge Up buff. This can help you survive the Feral Nerscylla’s AoE attacks. Alternatively, any Bow with Flash Coating is good for reducing the Feral Nerscylla’s Accuracy.
Recommended Monstie
Royal Ludroths are great early game companions in Monster Hunter Stories 3 due to their Water-based Power and Technical attacks. There are plenty of Royal Ludroths near the shores of Mirror Lake, so you should have no trouble finding one.
Recommended Hunting Companion
Ogden is great if you don’t want to use a Hunting Horn yourself. He can use Defensive Ditty to give everyone in the party a Dodge Up buff, but since the Feral Nerscylla is resistant to Poison and Physical damage, Ogden won’t be of much help when it comes to dealing damage. In fact, the Feral Nerscylla is resistant to all the elemental damage types used by your companions, so you won’t be able to rely on them to exploit elemental weaknesses.
Gaul can also work thanks to his ability to cleanse and inflict status effects. Eleanor is a decent pick too, assuming she ends up using her Fortified Spirit skill, which can save you from getting one-shot by the Feral Nerscylla.
Battle Tips
- When the Feral Nerscylla is in a neutral state, it will use Technical Attacks. When it’s enraged, it will use Speed attacks. Use this to win Head-to-Head clashes more often.
- Order your Monstie before attacking. This will keep them from automatically targeting the Feral Nerscylla’s Blightstone when it’s active.
- The Blightstone is vulnerable when the Feral Nerscylla is enraged. When the monster starts behaving oddly, focus all of your attacks on the Blightstone. Breaking it will weaken its beam attack.
- Skill variants with the BLNT tag deal higher Wyvernfell damage at the cost of having lower regular damage. Consider using these if you want to clear the fight faster.
- If all else fails, come back later once you’ve leveled up some more. Bringing Almudron weapons with you can make this fight much easier.
