How to Equip Decorations in Monster Hunter Stories 3
Players can add different skills (i.e. new attacks) to weapons in Monster Hunter Stories 3 by going to the equipment menu and selecting the piece of gear they want to modify. As long as a weapon has a vacant Decoration slot, you’ll be able to slot in any compatible jewel into it, making it stronger or more versatile. Decorations can be obtained in MH Stories 3 as rewards from chests and quests, though some can also be bought from merchants.

Where to Get Weapon Decorations in Monster Hunter Stories 3
Players can pick and choose from an ample selection of weapon skills/Decorations from Merchant Melynx, the Felyne trader who usually hangs around campsites. Speak with Melynx, then check the Special items that they have for sale. Here, you’ll find all sorts of weapon and armor Decorations.
Melynx will sell you items in exchange for Bronze/Silver/Gold Points, which you’ll naturally accumulate through regular gameplay. Fighting monsters and completing quests are your main sources of income, so if you ever need to get some extra Points to buy something, head on out to the wilderness and hunt some monsters.
Upgrading Decorations
Getting multiple copies of the same Decoration will automatically level it up. This is crucial to know, as Decorations can give you significant power spikes, especially higher-level ones.
Melynx will sell more Decorations as you progress through the game.
How to Equip Decorations in Monster Hunter Stories 3
In order to equip a Decoration, you first need to make sure that your armor or weapon has a vacant Decoration slot. You’ll know if they do by going to the Change Equipment screen and checking if your gear has any empty or padlocked boxes next to element icon. If so, check the bottom of the Change Equipment screen — you’ll see a button there that will let you change your equipped Decorations.
From here, just pick any of the skills you’ve obtained and slot them into your gear. If you insert a weapon Decoration, you’ll be able to use whatever skill that Decoration contained during your battles. Meanwhile, armor Decorations will remain active at all times while you’re fighting. However, some armor skills will only activate once you meet certain conditions.
How to Get More Decoration Slots
Decoration slots are tied to the equipment themselves. Some weapons and armor have Decoration slots, while others do not. Most armor sets do have extra Decoration slots, but they won’t always be unlocked.
To unlock a Decoration slot, you need to upgrade the weapon/armor you want to modify. Head to any town blacksmith or Merchant Melynx to upgrade your gear. Keep in mind that higher-rarity gear requires better materials, and the resources you need are often found in later areas.
Most (if not all) pieces of equipment have innate Decorations already installed within them the moment they are obtained. Oftentimes, the best Decorations to use with them are ones that further improve the things they are already good at. There are exceptions, of course, such as when picking armor Decorations that improve your resistances against attacks/effects.
