Examining the Super Mario Titans Leaks

By newsgame

A handful of leaked images have appeared online that appear to be screenshots of an unannounced Super Mario title, though not every fan believes that they’re authentic. The next 3D Mario game would be the first in the franchise since 2017’s Super Mario Odyssey, which released just a few months after the launch of the original Nintendo Switch.

The iconic Super Mario series is celebrating its 40th anniversary throughout 2026, with Nintendo marking the occasion with a handful of Mario-related announcements to celebrate. The suite of reveals have included new looks at The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, DLC for 2024’s side-scrolling platformer Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and even the announcement of Super Mario Run‘s new in-game event, bringing brand-new content to the mobile phone-based title that released a decade ago.

Mario Kart World’s Outfits Could Be Hiding a Massive Secret About Nintendo’s Future

While the introduction of outfits might not have been the biggest of Mario Kart World’s new features, it could be the key to future Super Mario games.

Leaks Suggest a New Superhero-Themed Mario Game Is Coming, but Fans Aren’t Convinced

Recent images have appeared online that are rumored to come from a brand new Super Mario game, titled Super Mario Titans, though many fans have questioned their validity. Various posts have circulated on sites like Reddit featuring the allegedly leaked screenshots, showing Mario and friends adventuring through a variety of biomes that include ice worlds, beaches, lava-filled volcanoes, and more. In several of these screenshots, characters can be seen wearing capes and even full-body jumpsuits, and a few images feature a large, muscle-bound Mario punching rocks or wandering through the environment.

A description for the leaked game describes an adventure where Mario and his many companions team up in each level, with a different friend joining the player each time. Mario would need to perform various platforming challenges with the companion, helping to level them up to a certain point before they would be transformed into a full-fledged superhero. Mario would make use of these allies’ unique abilities to traverse the lands they occupy, defeating the area’s boss in order to gain jewels. These jewels would allow Mario to explore more of the game’s open world, which includes areas based around abandoned theme parks, medieval castles, and more.

The leaked images and details are convincing enough to have gained traction on social media, as the concept of joining Mario’s many popular characters on his adventures feels like something right up Nintendo’s alley. The open world aspects also fit the long-standing speculation that Super Mario 3D World’s Bowser’s Fury mode may have served as a testing ground for the next evolution of Super Mario games. Despite this, many long-time Mario players have questioned whether these leaks can be trusted. The main source of doubt is in the fact that many of the proposed aesthetic changes, like the full-body superhero suits and Mario’s muscular form, feel out of character for the mustached plumber. Despite Mario’s wide variety of power ups and costumes over the years, a large, musclebound Mario feels a bit out of place in the Mushroom Kingdom. The images themselves have also been called into question, with fans speculating that they may have been created by AI tools to match the usual look and feel of a Mario game.

Along with the 40th anniversary of Super Mario as a series, March 10 also marks the return of Mar10 Day, Nintendo’s annual celebration of all things Super Mario. Nintendo has announced a host of Switch Online titles to be released in honor of Mario’s big day, but the occasion would have also been the prime event for an announcement of Super Mario Titans, if the game is in fact real. The radio silence on the project, and the fact that the leaked images have not been removed from the internet, suggest to many that they may not be authentic. While the leaks continue to circulate among Mario fan communities, only time will tell what the future of the series may look like.
