Co-op is one of the new features added in Slay the Spire 2, and many players are understandably confused about how multiplayer works in a turn-based roguelike game. Up to four players can tackle the Spire’s challenges together, but there’s more to Slay the Spire 2’s co-op mode than just throwing more people into the grinder. You can multiplayer-exclusive cards and interactions, harder enemies, and a few other surprises that are all integrated in the game’s co-op mode.

Slay the Spire 2 Co-Op Max Players
The game has a maximum party size of four players. However, enemies will scale depending on how many players are in the party. The more people there are in a group, the more health enemies will have. A full party of players should be able to clear their combat encounters at the same pace as a solo player would, though this might change as Slay the Spire 2 is updated.
How Co-Op Works in Slay the Spire 2
Now with max player count and health scaling out of the way, we can summarize the StS 2 co-op experience with the following points:
- Players take their turns simultaneously. You don’t need to wait for someone to play all their cards, but if everybody throws their cards out at the same time, the game will resolve them one at a time.
- Enemy attacks hit everyone. The entire group will receive damage and debuffs.
- Map pathing works on a voting system. Everyone needs to be on the same page when it comes to deciding which path they want to take.
- Players get to pick different event rewards. No need to stress over making the same decision as everybody else (unless otherwise specified. This applies to Rest Sites too.
- Everyone gets their own rewards. You get to pick your card rewards at the end of each combat encounter as per usual.
- Players need to fight over Chest rewards. If you want something that your other buddies do, you’ll all have to settle it through a game of rock-paper-scissors.
- You can use multiplayer-exclusive cards. Every character in Slay the Spire 2 has a suite of cards that are only available in co-op, and they synergize with other players in simple but impactful ways.
- If you die, you respawn after combat. Unfortunately, you only come back with 1 HP. However, you will get healed if you make it to the start of the next Act.
- You can heal other players at Rest Sites. If you’re at high HP, or if you’re feeling generous, you can use the Mend option when resting to heal someone else.
Playing co-op opens up tons of strong synergies between characters, like The Silent’s Poison working together with Necrobinder’s Doom, or Vulnerable becoming much more valuable when there are multiple characters queueing up their attacks. Experiment with various effects between different characters to find some seriously strong setups.
Of course, you’ll still be able to unlock Epochs and achievements while playing Slay the Spire 2 multiplayer. You’ll be able to unlock new characters and cards, so no need to worry about any progress blockers and modifiers while you’re playing with friends.
