PS Plus Just Took Away a Convenient Stardew Valley Feature
PlayStation Plus has reportedly removed an unusual feature attached to the version of Stardew Valley available through the subscription service, connected to an older Sony platform. Serving as Sony’s answer to Xbox’s massively popular Game Pass service, PS Plus offers players access to a rotating lineup of games every month, alongside permanent catalogs for higher tiers. PS Plus subscribers can even access some unique features, like Premium members regularly getting free trials for high-profile games like Stellar Blade and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. Now, a popular indie game is seeing a major change to its PS Plus availability.
Stardew Valley took the gaming world by storm following its debut in 2016, with the farming sim quickly capturing the hearts of millions of players. The indie game created solely by developer ConcernedApe is credited as one of the most influential titles in the boom in “cozy games,” selling more than 40 million copies in the nearly ten years since its launch. The farming sim has also received regular updates bringing new content, adding everything from co-op gameplay to new farm maps for Stardew Valley. However, fans on PS Plus will now lose access to one unusual perk.
Sony Removes Convenient Feature from Stardew Valley on PS Plus
A new change to the PS Plus version of Stardew Valley reveals that players will be losing access to a more obscure function of the game. Sony has reportedly removed the “cross-buy” functionality of Stardew Valley on PS Plus, with the PS Plus version granting ownership of the PS Vita version of Stardew Valley for free. The change to the service even saw several users who previously received the PS Vita version through PS Plus receiving emails about refunds, removing the Vita version from players who had gained access. Sony has not made an official announcement about the Stardew Valley change.
While the PS Plus change to Stardew Valley will likely not affect a significant number of subscribers, it does remove an unexpected perk for an older Sony console. Despite Sony officially discontinuing the PS Vita in 2019, console owners can still access the PlayStation Store and make purchases through the online storefront. The PS Vita is only estimated to have sold around 16 million units, while its main competitor, the Nintendo 3DS, sold more than 75 million consoles worldwide.
Stardew Valley‘s future looks as bright as ever with lots of exciting content on the way, both from the game and its solo developer. ConcernedApe has confirmed that the 1.7 update for Stardew Valley is in development, though he has tempered fan expectations with its release still being “a while” away. The developer has also revealed that he intends to keep support going for Stardew Valley well into the future, while also developing a new game in Haunted Chocolatier. Stardew Valley continues to maintain its iconic status, even nearly a decade after its original release.
