Where Winds Meet Has a Skin That Costs How Much?!

By newsgame

Where Winds Meet has a skin that can cost tens of thousands of dollars if players don’t have any luck with the game’s gacha system. Paid cosmetics, loot boxes, and similar mechanics have exploded over the past several years as companies have discovered just how profitable the freemium model can be. Wuxia RPG Where Winds Meet is no different, and while most of its skins are reasonably attainable, some can cost gamers a pretty penny.

NetEase’s pseudo-MMO was a big hit in China when it initially launched in 2024, and that success has now carried over to the West. In just 24 hours after its release, Where Winds Meet surpassed 2 million players and broke into the top five most-played games on Steam. As players continue to explore more of its massive world, they’ve discovered that it’s possible to run up quite the tab trying to obtain some of the game’s rarer cosmetics.

Rare Where Winds Meet Skin Can Cost up to $42,000

Back when Where Winds Meet first debuted in China, fans calculated that the Celestial Mortal outfit can require up to 300,000 yuan, or roughly $42,000, for a guaranteed shot at obtaining it. While Where Winds Meet is free-to-play, players can purchase premium in-game currency to get the chance to draw rare cosmetics in a gacha system. The Celestial Mortal skin, one of, if not the rarest, in the game, has extremely low odds of getting pulled, but the game will eventually reward the player with it after enough missed chances. Given the skin’s rarity, the ceiling for that guarantee is remarkably high, so anyone unlucky enough not to get it before reaching the hard cap will need to spend $42,000 for a surefire chance to get it.

Paying tens of thousands for an in-game item can seem extreme in any context. It’s even more staggering when considering that all Where Winds Meet cosmetics have no gameplay benefit other than looking cool. The game has no pay-to-win elements, so the Celestial Mortal skin is mostly just a status symbol. Of course, it’s possible that a player could unlock the outfit without burning through piles of cash, but doing so without at least some investment will be difficult, considering its low pull rates.

Where Winds Meet is far from the first game with a skin that can cost upward of $40,000. The Celestial Mortal outfit is not even the most expensive cosmetic out there. One Counter-Strike 2 skin sold for $45,000 in June 2025, and that was not even one of the rarest in the game.
