Invincible VS Character Getting Origin Story from Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker
An original character introduced in the upcoming Invincible VS fighting game is getting her own origin story crafted by the comic’s creators. Revealed in June 2025, Invincible VS is the first title from developer Quarter Up, Skybound Games’ in-house development studio. The 3v3 fighter is set to release on April 30, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Invincible VS is the first major video game set in the Invincible universe. Written and created by Robert Kirkman, the Invincible comics ran from 2003 until 2018, spawning a host of spin-offs and side stories before reaching its conclusion. In 2021, Amazon debuted an Invincible animated series, taking the franchise to new heights and helping to make its titular hero a household name. The series’ fourth season is set to premiere on Amazon’s Prime Video in March 2026, alongside the return of Invincible Presents: Battle Beast, a comic spin-off starring another of the franchise’s more popular characters. Battle Beast is created by Kirkman and another Invincible series veteran, illustrator Ryan Ottley, who took over primary illustrator duties on the comics after its initial arc. A live action version of Invincible is also reportedly in the works.
Invincible: Strongest Characters in the Comics
The Invincible comic series harbors characters with immense powers, and the strongest of them rival their animated show counterparts.
Original Invincible VS Character Stars in Her Own Origin Story From the Original Comic’s Creators
Ella Mental, the brand-new character set to make her debut in the upcoming Invincible VS fighting game, is getting her own origin story from Invincible‘s original creators, writer Robert Kirkman and illustrator Cory Walker. As reported by IGN, the story will premiere as a part of the relaunched Capes comics, which serve as spin-offs of the original Invincible comic series. Ella Mental’s story will be showcased in Capes issues 7–12, with Capes #7 set to release on May 27. The comics are set to reunite the team of Kirkman and Walker, who worked together on Invincible‘s original story arc and several other issues throughout the comic’s run, along with Kirkman’s revival of the Marvel Team-Up anthology series that saw Invincible make a cameo appearance in the Marvel comic universe.

Ella Mental is an original hero in the Invincible universe with the ability to control the elements of the planet. Voiced by popular underground rapper Tierra Whack in Invincible VS, her debut gameplay trailer sees her conjuring fireballs, creating tornadoes of wind, and even utilizing large boulders for defense. During her ultimate move, she traps enemy fighters inside a large orb of water, crushing them with massive rocks before engulfing them inside a fiery vortex. While not much is known of the character so far, her unique and versatile move set make her a fitting addition to the work of Invincible.
Robert Kirkman has had high praise for the Invincible VS roster in the past, teasing an impressive lineup that continues to be fleshed out with characters like Cecil and Monster Girl. The Invincible comics’ extensive run includes a wide variety of heroes, villains, and side characters, each with their own incredible set of powers. The game’s roster has the potential to make great use of these characters, and with the inclusion of original fighters like Ella Mental, the universe is now being built upon in surprising new ways.
While some fans may be divided on the first video game in the Invincible universe being a fighting game, the format allows fans to recreate some of the series’ most iconic battles. Many characters in its world have iconic abilities of their own, and allowing players to control fan-favorite characters such as Atom Eve and Battle Beast helps the game pay homage to its entire lineup, rather than just Invincible himself. Hopefully, this title’s success opens up a window for even more Invincible games in the future.
