The Fantastic Four: First Steps is right around the corner and IGN is here with an interview with director Matt Shakman and the film’s cast including Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Mass-Bachrach, Ralph Ineson, and Julia Garner. With Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and The Thing face an impossible foe in Galactus and his herald Shalla-Bal who seek to either devour Earth-828 or steal young Franklin Richards from his family for good.

Can Sue Storm, Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, and Johnny Storm protect their young family? Will they be forced to choose Franklin over their Earth? We dive into these questions and explore the looming threat of Doctor Doom, break down Reed Richard’s future as a leader, and tie it all up with a nice It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia shout-out that might ultimately be Shakman’s greatest legacy. 

The MCU continues to grow as Marvel Studios heads into Phase 6, but Shakman and company’s decision to keep this story contained is most certainly the smartest move Marvel Entertainment has made in some time. Though, how that translates to the eventual Avengers Doomsday remains to be seen.
