Kurosawa in 4K, a two-week series of classics by the great Japanese director Akira Kurosawa (1910-1998), gloriously restored in spectacular 4K, will run at Film Forum in New York City from Friday, July 18 through Thursday, July 31, 2025. The nine-film festival features some of the most influential titles by the legendary director, and in all of world cinema, spanning genres from samurai epic to gritty noir.
All 4K restorations were undertaken by Toho Co., Ltd. in Japan, with many being shown in the U.S. for the first time, including Throne Of Blood, Stray Dog, High And Low, The Hidden Fortress, Ikiru, Yojimbo, and Sanjuro.
Kurosawa’s acclaimed Seven Samurai recently celebrated its 70th anniversary with a 4K restoration and release at Film Forum in 2024, after it debuted at the Cannes Film Festival.
