HBO Max has taken the axe to yet another beloved cartoon series. Just last week the Warner Bros. owned streaming service quietly removed more Cartoon Network shows from the platform. Courage the Cowardly Dog is no longer available to stream on HBO Max, which means its no longer available on any streaming service. This news comes only a few months after the abrupt removal of Looney Tunes shorts that caused quite a stir earlier this year.
Courage the Cowardly Dog only had four total seasons with a total of 52 episodes, but it’s a show that had a significant impact on my childhood. While I hadn’t planned on rewatching it any time soon, the fact that I can’t watch it anywhere is pretty upsetting. If you’re wondering where you can still watch the show, I’ve tracked down the few options you still have available.
How to Watch Courage the Cowardly Dog
Where to Watch Episodes Online
If the news of the show’s departure from HBO Max (which recently rebranded back to its original name) is making you want to watch a few old episodes of the series online, you’ll unfortunately need to purchase them digitally. Online platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV have individual episodes available for $1.99 per episode or almost $24 per season. All 52 episodes are currently available to be purchased digitally.
Those prices are pretty expensive for a digital-only purchase, though. If you purchase all four seasons at once, you’re looking at almost $100 for the right to watch a cartoon that used to be free to stream with an HBO Max subscription. You also won’t technically “own” the episodes since platforms like Prime Video can still remove them later on if the rights are revoked.
Where to Buy Physical Copies
If you’re looking for a more permanent way to watch Courage the Cowardly Dog, I’d suggest going with the physical media route. Unfortunately, the only option currently available to buy is a DVD. The good news is that it’s the complete series and includes all four seasons for only $18. It’s a much more affordable option than buying digitally and you’ll actually own the episodes, so there’s no worry of them disappearing on you.
Doing a bit of research, I was unable to find any credible information about a Blu-ray version of the series. So unfortunately for now you’re stuck with just DVD if you want a physical copy. It’s possible that Courage the Cowardly Dog will eventually get a Blu-ray release, but there’s no indication that that will happen any time soon. The Looney Tunes Platinum collection got a Blu-ray release a few months after HBO Max removed the shorts, but it’s yet to be seen if the same thing will happen for the Cartoon Network classics.
