Winter’s nearly here, and with it comes the perfect excuse to hunker down with some great games at even better prices. Whether you’re chasing sprawling RPGs, stylish indies, or action-packed blockbusters, there’s something worth grabbing on every platform for the weekend. I’ve pulled out the standout steals from this mammoth lineup to save you some scrolling (and spare your gold supply).
This Day in Gaming 🎂
In retro news, I’m celebrating the 27th birthday of Wario Land II, a top ten Gameboy Color great that I sacrificed many a AA battery to. Over the course of its 50+ levels, it impressed with diverse boss battles and a surprisingly complex web of hidden exits, secret paths, and alternate endings. But the guiltiest pleasure I got from it came from the fact that I was looting treasure ripped from Zelda: A Link to the Past (i.e., purple Rupees, the Pegasus Shoes, Flute, Power Glove, etc).

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch
Nintendo Switch fans can score Mortal Kombat 11 for just nine bucks, a ludicrous price for a game that lets you uppercut a guy into a spike pit, then play as the Terminator. Also worth snagging is Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, where Byleth’s silent protagonist vibes are flipped completely on their head.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox
On Xbox Series X, Dead Space is slashed to A$27. This 2023 remake retained its iconic zero-G dismemberment while expanding Isaac’s voice lines for more emotional depth. And if you’ve never played No More Heroes 3, expect a satirical fever dream starring a beam katana-wielding otaku fighting aliens.

Purchase Cheap for PC
For PC players, Superhot is a crisp A$10. Its time-moves-only-when-you-do mechanic was originally pitched as a browser game in 2013. Rounding it out, Mafia: Trilogy (A$20) lets you trace the criminal underworld across three decades, including Mafia II, which used so many licensed 1940s songs it nearly doubled the budget.
